Mounty is a simple application for mounting disk images which is much faster than Apple's “Disk Copy” application and even slightly faster (and less obtrusive) than Panther’s “DiskImageMounter”. If you use disk images as much as I do, you will appreciate its speed.
Additionally, starting with version, 1.5 Mounty is able to extract GZip archives, whose contents—in versions 1.6 or later—is mounted automatically after unpacking, if the resulting file is a disk image.
Mounty is a GUI-less application, i.e.: when doubleclicking its icon, nothing happens and it won't even show up in the dock. To use it, simply drag a disk image on the application icon. Of course you can also use it to open disk images from the Finder's “Open with…” contextual menu or set it as the default application for opening disk images, if you like to (to do that, use any disk image’s info panel). In the latter case, doubleclicking an image will cause Mounty to open the image.
System requirements
This application was developed and tested on Mac OS X 10.3.6 and 10.2.6. Versions up to 1.5 did run on 10.1, but I guess 1.6 does not. If you need an older version, drop me a line.
