Have you ever deleted images from your digital camera's memory card and needed them afterwards? In spring 2003 I ran into that problem after processing some images using a buggy shell script: About 35 of those files were gone and of course (remember Murphy's Law) I had deleted the camera's memory card before ...
I found out how to restore the images using a hex-editor, but it turned out to be pretty tedious. This was the moment when the idea for “Exif Untrasher” was born.

System requirements

You will only be able to use this application if your camera's storage medium is mounted as if it was a regular Mac volume. If this is not the case: Some cameras (for example my Nikon Coolpix) allow switching the protocol/interface used for communicating with a computer—if your camera is capable of doing this, you should try to set it to “Mass Storage”. As an alternative you can use an external reader as well.

This application was developed and tested with a Nikon Coolpix 4300 on Mac OS X 10.1.5, 10.2.6 and 10.3.2. Users reported successful restoration of images taken with Canon Ixus 400, Canon PowerShot A40 Canon Powershot S200, Canon Powershot S30, Fuji FinePix S5000, Fuji Finepix A101, Kodak D4900, Minolta RD 3000, Nikon Coolpix 775, Nikon Coolpix 880, and Nikon D1X cameras (some of which were connected using an external card reader).
Please note that Exif Untrasher 1.4 does no longer run on Mac OS X versions 10.1 or 10.2. If you are using a system older than 10.3, please download version 1.3.6 instead.
